We are multidimensional beings–driven by curiosity, interests, passions, and desires. Yet, society often tries to confine us within labeled boxes. For artists, nothing is more stifling than remaining in that box. It suffocates the very essence of our creativity.
My photography is deeply influenced by abstraction, mood, and mystery, creating visuals that hopefully evoke curiosity and invite the viewer to interpret them in their own unique way.
In my street photography work, I aim to tell a story by finding and documenting moments that reveal a narrative or emotion, often through the use of careful framing, timing, and composition. It is my hope that my photography evokes a feeling or conveys a message to the viewer.
My background in graphic design plays a significant role in shaping my approach to composition, colour, and form. I aim to blend the artistic principles of design with the emotive power of photography, resulting in images that are not only visually captivating but also conceptually layered and open to interpretation.
I studied Graphic Design at Wrexham University and Loughborough School of Art, and went on to work in a variety of fields including retail, sales, advertising, marketing, design, print, and even the IT industrybut none of them were creatively rewarding. I feel at my happiest and most creative when I'm behind the camera, capturing moments through photography.
In my college days, I shot traditional black-and-white photography. Developing film in a darkroom, I used techniques like dodging and burning with a small piece of paper to manipulate the exposure of an image and alter the final print’s tonality, depth, and detail.
I graduated in 1996 and at the same time, the Internet exploded. My career path went the way of web development and I became more of an image-editor than an image-taker. Photography took somewhat of a side-step.
It was many years later before I decided to pick up a camera again. I've always enjoyed taking photos with my phone during my travels, but it was a growing interest in photographing landscapes that rekindled my interest and passion for photography.
A fluent Welsh speaker, I was born in the small university city of Bangor and grew up on the Isle of Anglesey in north Wales. On a personal level, I have a wonderful and supportive partner, a younger sister, and parents who still claim me as their son!
